George Floyd’s family settles suit against Minneapolis for $27 Million.
New York Times (Moderate Left) • Credibility Grade 83% • 6 min read

[Ben Crump, the civil rights lawyer who is among those representing Mr. Floyd’s family] said on Friday that the settlement was the largest ever reached before trial in a civil rights wrongful death lawsuit involving the police. As the settlement was announced, [the officer who killed Floyd, Derek Chauvin] sat in a courtroom less than a mile away, where jurors were being selected for his trial.
    ...
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called the agreement a milestone for Minneapolis’s future. But legal experts said the agreement might make it even harder to seat an impartial jury in the case against Mr. Chauvin, which was already a challenge because of the attention given to Mr. Floyd’s death and the intense demonstrations that followed.
    ...
Minneapolis pays its settlements out of a fund for legal payouts and workers’ compensation claims, and residents have expressed concern that their taxes are subsidizing payments for the misconduct of the police while failing to hold officers accountable. Activists have pushed for legislation that would require officers to carry their own liability insurance, with premiums that could rise after cases of misconduct.

Yes - High assay low enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel allows for smaller plant sizes, longer core life, and a higher burn up rate of nuclear waste. These modern, advanced reactors are designed to be safer than traditional water-cooled reactors, recycling old fuel rods and using coolants such as liquid sodium or molten salts instead of water. All of which is to say, advanced fission reduces nuclear waste—even using it as fuel—and drastically shrinks the chance of tragedies like Fukushima or Chernobyl. It's a lot better for the environment than the old technology, and it is certainly better than continued reliance on fossil fuels.
