Intel Hires Apple's Iconic "Mac Guy" To Pitch PCs | IAB Releases Newfronts Slate Of Presenters | Blackberry's CMO Talks Marketing And Cybersecurity

Greetings from the CMO Network,

Get ready for a second year of virtual Newfronts. The IAB announced today that it will host its annual series of events from May 3 to May 6 featuring a number of first timers. Amazon, A+E Networks, Estrella Media, Penske Media and VIZIO will be among those making Newfronts debuts to thousands of media buyers, while Snap, TikTok, Verizon Media, Vice Media Group, Twitter and YouTube will be returning. While the Newfronts typically feature a slate of premium publishers, the 2021 lineup also includes a more niche group of ad-tech vendors like OpenAP, Channel Factory and Oracle Advertising.

If you’ve missed the Mac vs. PC wars of the 2000s, the iconic “Mac Guy” made his debut as Intel’s new spokesperson, pitching—you guessed it—PCs. The campaign comes just a few months after Apple resurrected the former “PC Guy” to serve as its pitchman for its new M1 chip.

In other news, the e-commerce marketing company Yotpo says it has raised $230 million in Series F funding at a $1.4 billion valuation. Meanwhile, the performance marketing firm Tinuiti has acquired the Amazon-specialist agency Ortega Group to boost its e-commerce capabilities.

As always, if you have news tips or story ideas, feel free to email me.

Stay well,

Marty

Blackberry CMO Mark Wilson On Marketing & Cybersecurity

"Marketers know if their company gets breached, what does that mean for the brand?...If two companies are sending you the same message and one feels like it’s sent from the IT organization and one feels like it’s actually looking out for my best interest, I feel like that’s an area where marketers need to be very savvy about cybersecurity from a reputation perspective."
