In this video I improved an Appsumo business idea framework google sheet.

This is what it looked like before.

And here’s what it looks like now.

Here are a few of the steps I took:

Made the background color #fbf8f8 which is a sort of paper-y color. And changed the font to #444444 to lower the contrast. We’d like to spend time in this sheet without it blinding us.

For the header I used Appsumo’s logo green and white font color. The gold for highlighting the top scored idea was supposed to be the gold from their logo but it turned out too dark so I chose a lighter yellowy gold.

Turned the number ratings into dropdowns and emoji count selections for a user. Now a team can visually tell the difference between 3 and 5. A user can use stars. I chose the emojis to highlight the choices being made. Birds tweeting for Virality. Mind Blow for ease. Money bags for Goals.

Used switch formula to change the amount of emojis to a raw number to add to the score.

I gave each team member their own voting column. Used a count within the score sum formula to turn those into raw numbers.

A person can vote thumbs up, nothing or thumbs up.

Instead of having to sort/filter manually I added another sheet that filters out everything but the top idea(s).

For whichever idea gets the highest score, the entire row is highlighted in yellow gold. This is funky to do so I show you in the video how to do this.
