Poems on Flowers & Growth

As the natural world continues to slowly re-awaken around us, we reflect with poems on flowering and growth:

from ‘Fairies’” by Mei-mei Berssenbrugge
The Heart of the Tree” by Henry Cuyler Bunner
On Floriography” by Karen An-Hwei Lee
picking flowers” by Nate Marshall
Silhouette” by Janice Lobo Sapigao
The Flower at My Window” by Lucian B. Watkins

Jane Hirshfield Recommends a Poem

“During this past year, a few poems have been continual, sustaining, companions. One is James Baldwin’s ‘Untitled.’ The way the words are placed on the page exerts such a strong pull on the compass. It’s a poem made, too, of voice, and of voice and art’s promises. That a person standing under deluge can find such words and stance as this poem creates is in itself a surety-token that suffering can be navigated, can be survived.”

Jane Hirshfield, author of Ledger (Knopf, 2020), and Poem-a-Day Guest Editor for the month of April.
