5-Bullet Friday

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of “5-Bullet Friday,” a list of what I’m pondering and exploring.

What I’m listening to while writing —
Relaxing Bird Songs and Nature. The location is Ōtaki Village, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. I can’t wait to get back to good ol’ Nihon. Natsukashii!

iOS trick I find helpful if any apps require location services but you don’t want them to know your exact location —
Control the location granularity that you share with apps. “To allow an app to use your specific location, leave Precise Location turned on. To share only your approximate location—which may be sufficient for an app that doesn’t need your exact location—turn Precise Location off.” Here are the instructions. On my iPhone in the US, here’s what it looks like: Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > [Select App] > While Using App > Turn Off “Precise Location.”

What I can’t get out of my head —
Remy: Dogecoin Rap. I don’t own any doge, except for Molly pup, but I do love this video. Be sure to watch at least 60 seconds.

What I’m exploring —
Porta Sophia. “Porta Sophia, meaning doorway to wisdom, is a prior art library for patent reviewers around the world to find relevant prior art in the field of psychedelics. The library provides convenient access, via a simple search tool, to scientific literature, previous patents, historical archives, online forums and more. Key content from the public domain focuses on medical applications, means of production, drug combinations and various drug formulations of multiple psychedelic compounds. Due to historical and cultural aspects of psychedelics, prior art can be difficult or inconvenient to find. Porta Sophia identifies prior art most pertinent to patent reviewers wherever it may exist in common and uncommon spaces. This includes traditional sources (scientific literature, published patents) and domestic and foreign archives highlighting foundational work done decades ago. Porta Sophia is generating new tools to identify prior art from millions of blog posts contained in various online forums. A team of scientific and legal experts curate references most relevant to patent reviewers and are working to continually expand Portal content. Through community engagement, support, and collaboration, we anticipate frequent content updates and the roll-out of additional searching features. Together, we hope to grow Porta Sophia into an important public-facing structure that helps protect the public domain, stimulate new innovation around psychedelic applications, and enable the timely approval of psychedelic-based treatment options.”

Poem I’m pondering —
“Now that your worry has proved such an unlucrative business/
Why not find a better job?”
Hafiz

And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Much love to you and yours,

Tim

P.S. Deal of the Week — Four Sigmatic. You’ve heard me talk about these guys for years. I love their mushroom coffee with lion’s mane. It’s delicious, I recommend it, I gift it to my employees, and I give it to my houseguests. It’s amazing and will recharge you like nothing else. I also drink their Reishi Elixir before bed, which has been a game-changer for sleep.

From today through Monday, May 17, Four Sigmatic is running a limited-time Birthday Sale (turning 9 years old) with up to 50% off their most popular products. As a subscriber to “5-Bullet Friday,” you can also receive an extra 10% off, on top of their huge Birthday Sale discounts. Click here, and the discount will be automatically applied at checkout, or enter code 5BFTIM at checkout. In previous offers to this newsletter, Four Sigmatic products have sold out in less than 24 hours, so the race goes to the swift.

P.P.S. More of what I’m reading: why the National Council of Native American Churches *opposes* decriminalization of peyote, plus separate NYT cover story —
Open Letter to the Psychedelic Movement Regarding Peyote in Policy Efforts and How to Be an Ally to Indigenous Peoples of North AmericaandThe Psychedelic Revolution Is Coming. Psychiatry May Never Be the Same.by Andrew Jacobs.

P.P.P.S. I am doing an AMA on psychedelic research on the Effective Altruism Forum. I will be joined by Michael Pollan (@michaelpollan), bestselling author of How to Change Your Mind, and Dr. Matthew W. Johnson (@Drug_Researcher), professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins. Michael and Matthew will be answering questions this Sunday, and I’ll be doing so on Monday.
