Sen. Joe Manchin says he won’t back Democrats’ sweeping voting rights bill, filibuster reform.
Slate (Left) • Factual Grade 80% • 2 min read

In an op-ed piece for the Charleston Gazette-Mail, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said he can’t support the For the People Act, because it is too partisan. The House had approved the For the People Act in March in a 220-210 vote without any Republican support. In the op-ed, Manchin reiterated his objection to ending the filibuster rule.
    ...
The measure would, among other things, allow voters to register online or on Election Day, mandate 15 days of early voting, limit the ability of states to block mail-in voting and also rewrite federal campaign finance rules. Without his backing, the bill seems destined to fail in the evenly-split Senate.
    ...
Manchin said he would support another voting reform bill, known as the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. That measure, which also has the backing of GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, would involve a broad rewrite of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and is being touted as a bipartisan alternative to the bill that the House approved.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - The AR 16 (AR15 Civilian) was created for jungle warfare in Vietnam to replace the previous two military rifles which were great for long distance shooting in WWII and Korea. They have no place in the civilian world. They are lousy hunting rifles. I own several hunting rifles and hand guns and am retired from the Army, but I detest the NRA's current leadership/values.

Unsure - I have trouble seeing the benefit of having a true assault rifle (one with more than 10 rounds that auto fire or even semi-auto fire). [...] The troubl...
