Daily Money - How to Price Your Home for Sale

Here’s how many stocks to own

Retire with Money
Homebuying is exhausting under the best of circumstances, but in this market? Fuhgeddaboudit, as the Brooklyn saying goes. Some sellers are listing their property for more than they think it’s worth, just to see what happens. They call this “make me move” pricing. Sometimes it works out, and buyers meet the higher number. But other times, it results in a price drop and the home staying on the market longer. Buyers can grow suspicious of properties that have lingered on the market, thinking there must be something wrong with them. While it’s a stressful time to be a buyer, it’s a great time to sell if you’re considering downsizing or relocating in retirement. You might even consider renting (either temporarily or permanently) in your new spot.

Best wishes,
Elizabeth

Retire With Money Community Insights

This week in our Retire with Money Facebook group, a member asked this good question, “For Medicare supplemental plans, what companies are the best place to purchase them?” Supplement plans are sold by private insurers and work alongside Original Medicare to cover costs that Medicare doesn’t, such as co-pays and deductibles. Medigap policies are standardized, and in most states are named by letters, Plans A-N. So every Plan A is going to offer the same coverage regardless of who you buy it from. Ditto Plans B, C, D, G, etc. You can compare the differences among the letters here. (Some companies might have better customer service than others, but the coverage itself is the same.) Insurance carriers vary a lot by location, so you may not have the same options as your friend in another county or state. You can search for plans on the Medicare site. If you’re overwhelmed by your options, you can get free, unbiased assistance through your state SHIP counselor. Facebook members also reported going through a broker like Boomer Benefits or eHealthMedicare. You don’t pay these brokers, since they are compensated by the insurance carrier when you enroll in its plan.
