I’m so glad you’re a reader of The Intercept. Our team works hard to bring you groundbreaking, truth-telling journalism to increase accountability in our democracy.
You won’t be surprised to hear that this kind of journalism is expensive: We’re not just regurgitating news from other outlets. We have to cultivate contacts, interview sources (often securely, in translation, or in remote locations), and dig through leaked data or public records. Often, we hit a dead end and have to start down another path.
We do it all because we believe this kind of journalism is necessary for democracy to survive. But we do have bills to pay.
Since you’re reading this, I trust that you value The Intercept. And since you’re a person who cares about doing the right thing, I trust that you pay for what you value if you can afford to.
We’re trying to raise $400,000 by June 30. We’re more than halfway there, but we only have 4 days to raise another $150,000. If we can get a few more of you to chip in, we can meet our goal and get back to writing and editing excellent reporting for you to read.
Can you become a member of The Intercept by making whatever contribution you can manage?
If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
If you’re still reading, maybe you’ve got cold feet. Maybe you’re not used to being a member of a media outlet — it’s not how the corporate media, which relies on advertisers, works. But the corporate media has to look over its shoulder when it wants to publish stories about those advertisers’ corporate cousins and political friends.
When we consider speaking truth to power, we look over our shoulder and see our readers, who have invested trust, moral support, and dollars and cents to make sure that The Intercept is beholden only to the facts.
There are a lot of you, so if a few more can each give a little, we’ll have enough. But too many won’t even get this far in the email, so if you’re still reading, thank you for that, and I hope you can give today:
Thank you,
