Joe Biden's executive order on 'promoting competition' covers everything from farmers markets to net neutrality
Reason (Moderate Right) • Factual Grade 82% • 4 min read

Biden “encourages the [Federal Trade Commission (FTC)] to ban unnecessary occupational licensing restrictions that impede economic mobility.” Biden is directing the Department of Health and Human Services “to consider issuing proposed rules within 120 days for allowing hearing aids to be sold over the counter.”
    ...
He also announces a general “policy of greater scrutiny of mergers, especially by dominant internet platforms, with particular attention to the acquisition of nascent competitors, serial mergers, the accumulation of data, competition by ‘free’ products, and the effect on user privacy.”
    ...
Like so many of former President Donald Trump’s executive orders—Biden is wading into territory he doesn’t actually have the power to control and, therefore, much of his executive bloviating is technically toothless. There’s a lot of the word encourages thrown about.

Context: Wells Fargo removes personal credit lines, against backdrop of lower spending during pandemic.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Up - My net worth has gone up due to stimulus and ability to save from lack of spending during the pandemic. However, my future earnings potential has been decreased. I have been back at work since June of 2020 and am still only making about 75% of my wages from before the pandemic. I am unsure if my business will ever get back to where it was so the increased net worth is serving as more of a safety net currently.

Down - The only reason my net work has dropped is because I use to work two jobs before the pandemic. One was a part time position in the hospitality industry....

Up - I was over weighted in tech and growth stocks pre-pandemic. After the initial panic sell off, that industry ...
