More than 400 people, including former administration officials, celebrities, and Democratic Party donors, were planning to attend the party that included a medical “coronavirus coordinator” charged with collecting proof of vaccination and negative Covid-19 tests. The party, which would have also included some 200 staff, was planned as an outdoor gathering that followed CDC protocols.
    ...
The change in plans came after Obama seemed willing to move forward with the event despite controversy. Some of Obama’s supporters were quick to point out that Martha’s Vineyard is in an area that has been designated of “moderate” Covid-19 community spread and Massachusetts has a high vaccination rate.
    ...
Despite the preparations and protocols, the event raised criticism as some feared it would send the wrong message at a time when the White House is calling on Americans to take the virus more seriously. Obama canceled the big bash and transformed it into a gathering for “family and close friends."

Context: China's Tencent curbs gaming usage for children amid concerns by state officials.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - My understanding is that there is a lot of legitimate evidence from studies, brain scans, etc. to show that the stimulation of gaming can affect the brain like addictive drugs do. Addictions are often formed early, so if we don't want children's minds messed up by alcohol or even heroin at 14, why are we handing them this other highly addictive substance? The high stimulation (lights, sound effects, rewards) from virtual games make real life feel less rewarding and keeps you coming back for more.

No - Video games, like rock and roll before them, have always been a popular target of puritanical adults who can't be bothered to find the joy in them. Vide...
