The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a $750,000 grant to a team led by Academy Chancellor, Kwame Dawes, and Lorna Dawes, associate professor of University Libraries, to expand African poetry research and create an online portal.

2022 First Book Award Judge 

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Tyehimba Jess will judge the 2022 Academy of American Poets First Book Award, the nation’s most generous first-book prize for poetry. The winner will receive $5,000 and their manuscript will be published by Graywolf Press in 2023. Submissions will be accepted online between August 1 and October 1, 2021, and the recipient will be announced in April 2022 during National Poetry Month.

The Department of English at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking an open-rank tenure-track Professor in its MFA program to teach Native American and Indigenous poetry courses, MFA workshops, and serve on MFA thesis committees beginning September 1, 2022.

Penguin Random House in New York City is seeking a full-time Publicist to promote audiobooks from 1,800 titles a year. 

Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in African American literature and culture to begin teaching September 1, 2022.
