Wirecutter - What’s that smell? Our favorite candles

Plus: How we used dead rats to test a product, new picks, and more

Our favorite scented candles

Whether you like warm and woodsy or fresh and floral, a scented candle can elevate the ambience of any room. But we know that not every candle is pleasant, so we tested 32 of them (including ones from Yankee Candle) to find the highest-quality options. Here are the candles that wowed us the most, as well as the ones we recommend you avoid.

The best drawing tablets for beginners

If you’ve ever attempted to sign your name on a trackpad, you know how difficult it is to get clean strokes with a mouse or a finger. Now imagine trying to draw something. Artists and photo editors alike can appreciate the natural and precise translation of strokes that come from putting stylus to tablet.

After another round of testing, we have two new picks for drawing tablets: the Wacom Intuos and the One by Wacom.

Wacom dominated our tests for several reasons, but we were particularly impressed by the Intuos tablet’s responsiveness to pressure from the stylus. Also, the drawing surface is textured, so it felt the most like using an actual pen and paper. The One is an especially good choice for students.

How we proved the Terro Garbage Guard works

We used a bag of dead rats—really. The Garbage Guard is a little device that adheres to the underside of a trash barrel lid to take care of bugs. Trust us when we say it works.

Coop Home Goods Total Body Pillow

Deal price: $60 | Street price: $70
Use code WIRECUTTER15

Anyone can enjoy cuddling up with a body pillow (which is shaped like a standard bed pillow yet twice as long), but it’s most beneficial for side- and stomach-sleepers. A body pillow can also offer comfort and support for people with injuries or pain. Our testers enjoyed the Coop Home Goods pillow because of its shredded memory foam; it makes the pillow denser than alternatives, but you can adjust the fill to customize its firmness.

1Password Password Manager (Individual plan)

Deal price: $18 | Street price: $25

Everyone needs a password manager. Yes, even you. Using one is the most important thing you can do to keep your data safe. We’ve evaluated dozens of paid and free options, and 1Password remains our favorite. In addition to storing your passwords, 1Password has a Watchtower feature, which helps you identify and change weak, reused, or compromised passwords. 1Password is also accessible via apps that work on just about any computer, tablet, phone, or browser.

Baloo Weighted Throw (12 lb)

Deal price: $120 | Street price: $160

Sometimes we just want a hug. Or, at the very least, a big fluffy pet on our lap. When neither is available, there’s the weighted blanket. Baloo’s blanket is best if you’re looking for a weighted blanket that has a bedroom vibe—as opposed to a living-room one—and if you want one with the easiest possible upkeep. Our testers described the feel of it as a cross between a quilt and a comforter, and they loved the smooth feel of its covering.
