Here’s my quick theory on the future of VC (venture capital). I think there will be 4 winning groups:

• Big Brands - (eg. sequioa, a16z, benchmark) they will get the best deals, because their stamp represents being a “top tier” startup. Their value add is their brand name.
• Niche Specialists (eg. cannabis investors, machine learning fund, crypto funds). They will focus 100% of their time on one niche, do a bunch of blogging to become a name in this niche, and they can join any round because they specialize in this niche so the founders see them as “value add”
• Celebrity Angels (eg. Balaji, Naval, etc.) - individuals who founders look up to.
• Venture Services - this is the unique one. These are investors who run a service company that portfolio founders use for free or reduced rates. Eg. Bobby in this tweet is an ex designer at facebook. His fund does design services for the startups they invest in. Bradley Tusk from Tusk Ventures got to invest in uber because he’s a policy guy and they did policy consulting for uber. I think this is going to be a big trend. Maybe I should buy an accounting firm or PR firm and offer it free/cheap to founders who I invest in.
