There’s a new Netflix doc out about Bob Ross, the PBS oil painter who really loved squirrels and sort of accidentally pioneered ASMR. (Seriously, if you have insomnia, an ep of The Joy of Painting before bed does the trick for me). The film takes a look at the couple — Annette and Walt Kowalski — who have controlled the rights to his likeness since his death in the ‘90s, and the legal battle between their family and Ross’ own son. It feels especially relevant now, coming off the heels of the discourse around Britney Spears’ conservatorship, #TaylorsVersion, and who really owns a performer’s work. Read More
