• PodcastOne has announced the judges for its Self Made Podcast Edition talent competition.

• The 2021 Discover Pods Awards are accepting nominations until tomorrow at 6pm ET. The fifth annual awards claim to be the largest fan-voted awards aiming to celebrate a diverse group of podcasts. It’s free to nominate - here’s the direct nomination link.

• The Podcast Host is running a survey finding out the obstacles podcasters face in their podcasting process. You’ve until Monday, and there’s a brand new microphone and headphones up for grabs.

• Spotify has been criticised for promoting a podcast by a far-right comedian.

• Earshot Strategies, a branded podcast production company now in its fifth year, has hired Lucio Mesquita as their Head of Editorial and Operations. He joins from the BBC and the Caribbean’s Guardian Media. The company also has a new website.

• The world’s #3 podcast app, Google Podcasts, is getting a full Material You update. “Material You” will be the new style for Android 12, which is shortly to be released. You need the latest Google App, a Google Pixel phone, and you need to wait for a server-side update, just like the new UI elements promised in August, which we’re still waiting for, no pressure.

• Google Podcasts has also released a new version of its app on iOS. The app is now updated to v2.0.13, and “includes bug fixes and performance improvements”. Maybe the new UI is hidden in that, too.
