Hello from a very brief vacation. Adele is returning with her first album in six years, and the first single, “Easy on Me,” is out now. If you somehow haven’t heard it yet, listen on a very stacked Playlist.

Eric Ducker profiled Remi Wolf, a 25-year-old pop musician with “a keen ability to slurp up the often doofy flotsam of the recent past and make it seem far cooler than it was in the first place.” (That’s so well said, I couldn’t summarize it.) Melena Ryzik went to Los Angeles to meet Finneas as the musician, best known as Billie Eilish’s producer brother, tries to introduce listeners to Finneas, the solo artist. Isabelia Herrera went to a museum with the genre-melding Xenia Rubinos to discuss her third album, “Una Rosa.” Elisabeth Vincentelli spoke with the director Todd Haynes about his new Velvet Underground documentary. (A Critic’s Pick!) And our theater team celebrated the 50th anniversary of “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

In the director’s hands, music subjects are as much about their cultural moment as about their sound — a good description of the band led by Lou Reed.
