Poets Laureate Fellows Interview: Marcus Amaker 

“Our art form can help people see things deeper and differently than what they are used to.” Read this interview with 2021 Poet Laureate Fellow, Marcus Amaker, on his Poets in Schools program and his own writing. The Academy Poets Laureate Fellowships, established in partnership with The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, are $50,000 awards given to honor poets of literary merit appointed to serve in civic positions and to enable them to undertake meaningful, impactful, and innovative projects that engage their fellow residents, including youth, with poetry, helping to address issues important to their communities.


Guggenheim Museum Launches Open Call for Poet-in-Residence

The Guggenheim Museum, in collaboration with the Academy of American Poets, has established a year-long poet-in-residence position open to a contemporary poet with a strong interest in public engagement beginning in January 2022. Upcoming Deadline for High School Students: Submit to the 2022 National Poetry Month Poster Contest by November 15

The Academy of American Poets invites students living in the United States, U.S. Territories, or Tribal Nations who are in grades 9 through 12 to enter artwork to be considered for the National Poetry Month poster in 2022. The winner will be selected by co-judges Rafael López, New York Times-bestselling illustrator and artist, and Nikki GrimesNew York Times-bestselling author and poet. The winning student’s artwork will be featured on the official National Poetry Month poster in 2022, which will be distributed to classrooms, libraries, bookstores, community centers, families, and individuals nationwide in time for the April celebration. The deadline to submit is November 15, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EST.


There is Still Time to Submit to the Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize 

The Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize is given to honor exceptional poems that help make real for readers the gravity of the vulnerable state of our environment at present.  The judges are Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali and Alexis Pauline Gumbs. Submissions will be accepted until November 15, 2021.


The Academy of American Poets is seeking a full-time Senior Content Editor who will be responsible for producing, copy editing, and maintaining content for the Academy of American Poets. 

The National Book Foundation in New York City is seeking a full-time Awards & Honors Manager
