Eric Schmidt Discusses the Dangers of A.I.

The first time I interviewed Eric Schmidt, a dozen years ago when he was the C.E.O. of Google, I had a simple question about the technology that has grown capable of spying on and monetizing all our movements, opinions, relationships, and tastes. “Friend or foe?” I asked. “We claim we’re friends,” Schmidt replied coolly.

What Is the Future of the Internet of Things?

AIoT: When AI Meets the Internet of Things The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology helping us to reimagine daily life, but artificial intelligence (AI) is the real driving force behind the IoT’s full potential.

From its most basic applications of tracking our fitness levels to its wide-reaching potential across industries and urban planning, the growing partnership between AI and the IoT means that a smarter future could occur sooner than we think.

This infographic by TSMC highlights the breakthrough technologies and trends making that shift possible, and how we’re continuing to push the boundaries.

What Makes Smart Cities Smart

In general, cities and habitats are posing a dire need to be more connected, more innovative, and more citizen-centric. Technology has played -and will continue to play- a significant role in designing solutions to address the problem statements that citizens and the authorities face. But when looking to develop or transform into a smart city, we need to not just address the current challenges the city is facing, but also scale it to its maximum potential.

Abductive Inference Is a Major Blind Spot for AI

Recent advances in deep learning have rekindled interest in the imminence of machines that can think and act like humans, or artificial general intelligence. By following the path of building bigger and better neural networks, the thinking goes, we will be able to get closer and closer to creating a digital version of the human brain.

Producing Change With Leading Indicators, AI and IoT

Artificial intelligence. The internet of things (IoT). Data lakes. The manufacturing industry is fixated on vague technological terms. While new technology is crucial, it’s the behavioural and organisational change that follows which truly brings about digital transformation.

IoT and artificial intelligence (AI) will fundamentally change the factory floor by providing manufacturers with real-time, leading indicators.

The Convergence: Artificial Intelligence and IoT

Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) is the next key step for IoT – transforming the process of analyzing data and turning it into action.

IoT will help with a new generation of AI enablement due to the aggregation nature of IoT. At its core, IoT is gathering massive amounts of data. And as that data is processed through the data-hungry algorithms of AI, the analytical and action parts of IoT will be greatly enhanced.

Amazon Is Reportedly Working on a Smart Fridge

Amazon might be working on its own smart fridge, according to a new report from Insider. "Project Pulse," as the project is titled internally, is reportedly being developed by the same Amazon "physical-stores unit" that worked on the company's high-tech Amazon Go stores.

Project Pulse "is designed to track your inventory and purchase habits, predict what you want, and have it delivered," Insider writes. The fridge could also track expiration dates, suggest recipes based on the products in your fridge, and offer an easy way to order more food from an Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods grocery store.
