For journalist and photographer Kevin Truong, personal history is storytelling. In a vulnerable CreativeMornings/Portland talk exploring his family and identity, Truong transports us from the refugee camp in Kuala Lumpur where he was born through the trauma and shame he had carried growing up as an Asian American immigrant and a gay man. Decades later, he found healing and release from telling his own stories and filming a feature-length documentary celebrating his mother’s lived experiences called Mai American.
