If you use vinegar in your laundry, try putting it in the fabric softener dispenser to naturally soften your clothes.

Happy Thursday! I’m hoping for good weather today because some of my outdoor projects got delayed yesterday on account of an adorable bat taking up residence in my gazebo. I didn’t have the heart to send the little guy on a wild daylight flight (fight?) for his life so here’s to hoping for some sunshine.

Speaking of sunshine, it’s that time of year that many of us in colder climates start spending a lot more time indoors. That might be good for avoiding frostbite but it’s not so great for our mental or physical health. Here are some fun and novel ways to get outside this winter.

The winter is also a time of decorating and meal preparation. On the lighter side, check out this giant 800 ornament decoration. On the more serious planning-for-the-holidays side, here are some Thanksgiving plan-ahead tips from Martha Stewart, some awesome air fryers to help you whip up dishes and sides, and our favorite blenders for soups and purees. Oh, and you can even make the Cheese Cake Factory’s delicious Brussel sprouts right at home.

And water cooler trivia? How about a two-for-Thursday. On this day in 1966, Gemini 12—the last of the Gemini spacecraft—made history by being the first spacecraft to perform an autonomous reentry into Earth’s atmosphere. Also on this day, in 1974, award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio was born. We can’t tell you how bad we wanted to make this a triple-trivia lineup about space by including a blurb about Leo staring in a movie about Gemini astronauts, but the best we can do is this: he narrated the IMAX Experience movie Hubble about the repair of the Hubble Space Telescope. Maybe that counts. We did it! Triple Trivia Thursday!

Happy Wednesday! As is tradition, a Hump Day camel fact for you. When you see premium overcoats labeled “camel hair” it doesn’t refer to the color even though they are almost always tan. It’s literally camel hair, which makes a very insulative and water-resistant type of wool.

As for the goodies in today’s newsletter, do check out our favorite kitchen appliances to help breeze through holiday prep. (And speaking of holiday prep, here’s how to master mashed potatoes.)

If part of your holiday planning involves prepping yourself to look good, you’ll definitely want to check out these alternatives to the Clarisonic ultrasonic facial brush. Why do you need an alternative? Clarisonic discontinued the product, much to the dismay of ardent fans.

And water cooler trivia? Just because it’s camel fact day doesn’t mean we’ll leave you hanging. Here’s a fun holiday-centric one. On this day in 1990, Home Alone debuted. The light-hearted holiday film was a success out of the gate and has only become more popular over the years.

YouTube Hides Dislike Counts, Forcing You to Read the Comments

Starting today, YouTube will hide the public dislike counter on all videos. You can still dislike videos, but you can’t open a product review or tutorial and check the dislikes to see if it’s worth watching. The YouTube brass say this change will “protect our creators from harassment,” which is a disappointing explanation, as viewers are now forced to read comments if they want to quickly gauge a video’s quality.
