President Biden calls on the Federal Trade Commission to look into whether "illegal conduct" is pushing gas prices up.
CBS News (Moderate Left) • Factual Grade 75% • 3 min read

The cost of gasoline is up nearly 50% from last year, as inflation had its largest annual increase in over 30 years. "The bottom line is this: gas prices at the pump remain high, even though oil and gas companies' costs are declining," Mr. Biden wrote [to Lina Khan, chair of the FTC].
    ...
"Usually, prices at the pump correspond to movement in prices of unfinished gasoline, the main ingredient in the gas people buy at the gas station," Biden wrote. "But in the last month, the price of unfinished gasoline is down more than 5% while gas prices at the pump are up 3%. This unexplained large gap [...] is well above the pre-pandemic average."
    ...
"Demand has returned as the economy comes back and is outpacing supply. Further impacting the imbalance is the continued decision from the administration to restrict access to America's energy supply and cancel important infrastructure projects," said [an executive of the American Petroleum Institute, which is the lobbyist for the largest gas and oil companies].

Should the US be willing to use force in defense of Taiwan?

Context: President Biden has virtual summit with Xi Jinping, Taiwan a looming issue.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - It's not just about Taiwan. It's about what Beijing and the rest of the world see when a bully like China invades a friend of the US. If they see us back down, we continue to lose standing as a world power and our allies lose faith in us, which means we lose influence over things (like trade) that directly affect our prosperity and security. If we defend Taiwan, that signals to the world that it is safe and smart to be our ally.

No - While I value the open more democratic nature of Taiwan in a region rife with socialist/communist influence, I do not believe a shooting war is in anyone’s best interest. The alread...
