You’ve always had our back. We need you now.

We’re behind where we need to be on fundraising goals for the year, but we have a chance to close the gap.

This Tuesday is Giving Tuesday, one of the most important fundraising days of the year for nonprofits like The Intercept. And this year Giving Tuesday is more important than ever, because 2021 has been an extremely challenging year for journalism, and The Intercept is no exception.

The minute Donald Trump left office, TV news ratings, newspaper readership, and traffic to news websites dropped sharply. And fewer readers means fewer donations.

In fact, as of this moment, we’re about $250,000 behind where we were at this point in 2020.

But here’s the good news: Last year, between Giving Tuesday and the end of the year, we raised more than $500,000. So, there’s still time to catch up, but the window is closing.

That’s why we’ve set an ambitious goal of raising $90,000 by midnight Tuesday. Will you make a Giving Tuesday donation to help meet this critical goal?

As a reader, you know that The Intercept provides groundbreaking investigative journalism you can’t get anywhere else.

We expose the moneyed interests. We refuse to cozy up to those in power. And in the process we make some powerful enemies. This kind of journalism is not cheap or easy, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Your donations provide us with a key source of funding while giving us the independence we need to take on powerful corporations, uncover government secrets, and do it all knowing that you, our readers, will have our backs.

This is no time for journalists to be trimming our sails or lowering our ambitions. That’s why we’re asking you to help close our fundraising gap and meet our critical Giving Tuesday fundraising goal of $90,000.
