Yes - It is my understanding that the Remain in Mexico program is intended to prevent illegal immigrants from being caught, released into the interior, then skipping their court hearing and simply living illegally within the United States. This is functionally equivalent to an open borders policy, so the Remain in Mexico policy makes sense. That being said, I do wish that the path to citizenship required jumping through less hoops. Maybe we wouldn't need this policy if citizenship wasn't so difficult to attain that people felt the need to immigrate illegally.
