Vaccines are changing the latest Covid wave

Covid-19 cases continue to skyrocket in the United States, prompting local governments to ramp up vaccination efforts and reinstate some Covid restrictions. Some of the states with the highest number of vaccinated residents are encountering the biggest outbreaks, but they’re also seeing how well they work. Even as people may see infections, their hospitalization rates are much lower than is the case in states where fewer people are vaccinated. Data from the CDC also shows that unvaccinated people are significantly more likely to go to the hospital or die from Covid infections. And even as some breakthrough infections are happening, unvaccinated people are about six times more likely to test positive for Covid than those who are unvaccinated.
