Earlier this week, I was going through that good ol’ infinite scroll that Twitter ropes you in with. As you can imagine, I saw a mix of Omicron fearporn, political barb-trading, regurgitated Web3 posts, and thankfully, a smattering of pictures of people’s children visiting Santa Claus. (The latter made me feel a little better.)

But then, something stopped me in my tracks. There was a political post, which was sure to start a firestorm of back-and-forth replies. But Twitter had embedded a message into the post. The message read…

Some conversations can get heavy

Don’t forget the human behind the screen

I give props to Twitter for this one. It’s true that we’ve seen countless stories about how social platforms are all about engagement. And arguments and debates fuel engagement much more than agreeable posts. In fact, we’ve covered this recently on Rocketship.FM.

But here, we see what we all really need – empathy – built into the product.

Yes, it’s just a small request that Twitter is making. But it’s something. Maybe it will give somebody a little pause before they engage in that Twitter battle that… let’s face it… really isn’t going to add any good into the world anyway.

But I also hope this can inspire us all beyond the Twitter feed as well. Look, the Holidays can be a stressful time for so many people. Especially these days, when all we see in our newsfeed is just… depressing.

So this holiday season, whether it’s the other side of your Twitter reply, the restaurant takeout kiosk, the retail store counter, or in line at the grocery store… please don’t forget the human on the other side.

Conducting continuous product research shouldn’t be so hard or expensive, that’s why we built UserVoice Validation. Product manager vs. project manager: 6 Differences & similarities. There's bound to be confusion when you have two jobs with the same abbreviation and similar-sounding titles. What is product adoption: How to measure + examples (2021 guide). Product adoption is not something that companies can afford to ignore. After all, it’s not profitable to build a product that no one is willing to purchase. You need loyal customers that regularly use your product, and product adoption can help you find those customers.
