Top 3: Web3 & NFT, JavaScript stars in 2021 and how to say NO

1. My first impressions of web3​

TL;DR: Technical details and thoughts from the founder of Signal on web3 and NFT.

Favorite takes and thoughts:

• NFT is a URL that is stored on a blockchain. This address refers to an image that is often stored on some VPS. Anyone with access to that VPS can change the image, header, description, and any data to whatever they want.

  You can even change this dynamically depending on the IP address of whoever is requesting the resource and make it look like like this on the OpenSea marketplace, like this on the Rarible marketplace, and when the NFT is viewed from a crypto wallet, it looks like a 💩 emoji.

  Hilarious.
• Almost all decentralized applications underneath use centralized APIs like Infura or Alchemy to interact with the blockchain.
• "There was a time when 50 people working on a software project wasn’t considered a “small team.” As long as software requires such concerted energy and so much highly specialized human focus, I think it will have the tendency to serve the interests of the people sitting in that room every day rather than what we may consider our broader goals."

2. 2021 JavaScript Rising Stars​

TL;DR: List of the most popular technologies in the JavaScript ecosystem in 2021 [based on stars on Github]

Some stats:

• The most popular project in 2021 was zx, a tool for writing command-line scripts using JavaScript and TypeScript. Second place went to Vite. Third place went to Next.js.
• In the category of state managers, the most popular was zustand.
• ​Remix, Deno, and Rust getting traction.

Finally, there is some activity going on in the ecosystem. 2020 was a boring year.
