Quit Your Job And Move Abroad | How TikTok’s Top-Earning Stars Produced A $55 Million Haul Last Year | Exclusive: Meet The Highest-Paid Female Athletes | And More

A thing I find myself saying, not infrequently, is that “here at Forbes, we love our lists.” This is especially true this week; as you’ll see from the contents that follow this note, we had not one, not two, but three big lists come out in the past week, each revealing something new and interesting about the way women are innovating, earning money, and making a difference in the world.

Of course, my favorite of these three lists is the
50 Over 50: Asia. Forbes and Know Your Value (our partner in this initiative) knew from the overwhelmingly positive response to the 50 Over 50 American lists last year that we couldn’t keep this project local. It had to expand on a global level, because women all over the world are stepping into their power over the age of 50 and, in so doing, are shattering age and gender norms.

There are so many
fabulous stories within this new list: Jay Fai, 77, launched her seven-table Bangkok food stall in the 1980’s. For decades, she had her local devotees—but in 2018, she received her first Michelin star and hit a new level of acclaim. Lee In-kyung, 53, is a partner and CFO at MBK Partners. She is breaking the glass ceiling in South Korea’s investment world, where only 4.6% of senior employees at private equity firms are women. And for a name I suspect most people already know and love: Yayoi Kusama is 92 and has been creating art for years—but at 88, she went viral, thanks to her infinity mirror room creations.

As I always say: I hope you enjoy
reading about these women as much as my colleagues and I enjoyed reporting on them.

Cheers!
Maggie

Forbes Exclusive: The Highest-Paid Female Athletes Scored A Record $167 Million In 2021

There is plenty to worry about in the world of women’s sports: disparities in pay and facilities, poor working conditions, a lack of media coverage, even outright abuse. Yet for all those problems, there is an undeniable sense of optimism, too. Leagues are adding new owners and expansion teams. TV ratings are up, and networks are providing new homes for games. Sponsor dollars are—finally—arriving, and startups are attracting investors.
