Supreme Court blocks Biden's Covid requirements for businesses, upholds health care workers mandate.

The rule, which the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced last fall, required companies with 100 or more employees to ensure that their workers either get vaccinated or wear masks and show negative Covid-19 test results at least once a week. OSHA estimated the rule, which would have covered 80 million workers, would save over 6,500 lives and prevent 250,000 hospitalizations in the next six months.
    ...
"Although Congress has indisputably given OSHA the power to regulate occupational dangers, it has not given that agency the power to regulate public health more broadly," the conservative justices wrote. "Requiring the vaccination of 84 million Americans, selected simply because they work for employers with more than 100 employees, certainly falls in the latter category." [The justices voted against the mandate 6-3].
    ...
The Supreme Court on Thursday said a separate regulation that requires vaccinations for health care workers who treat Medicare and Medicaid patients can be enforced.

Should unvaccinated people be taxed over increased healthcare costs?

Context: Quebec plans tax on residents not vaccinated for Covid-19 amid surge in hospitalizations.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - This is a very slippery slope, if we're going to start taxing people for making personal choices about their health, where does it end? Do we start charging an overweight tax? Athlete tax? How about a pregnancy tax? All these also help stress the hospital system, so why not charge people for those things too? Canada provides universal healthcare, which really means that all taxpayers are coming together to ensure everyone has equal access to quality healthcare. It should remain that way regardless of personal choices.
