Review Geek - Why Do Emoji Look Like 💩 on Windows?

Read in Browser

January 14, 2022

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I’m pretty sure emoji must be worth at least half that. They are a fun way to communicate with friends and family, and even make it easier to talk with people who don’t speak the same language as you. So it got us wondering why emoji still look so terrible on Windows?

Our very own Andrew dove in and explored the company’s current roster of terrible (and straight up weird-looking) emoji to get to the root of things. What happened to 3D emoji? Has Microsoft ever been good at designing emoji? Click on today’s top story to find out!

Other Highlights:

  • We all know “Minecraft” as a popular open-world sandbox video game, but have you ever taken a look at all the cool stuff you can build in it? It’s mind-blowing!
  • Tesla deleted all references to the Cybertruck’s release date on its website, but it might announce an update for this on January 26. Color us interested.
  • Dropbox’s new Apple M1 optimized beta has arrived, and we have all the details you’ll need if you want to install it.
  • … and much more!

Why Do Emoji Look Like 💩 on Windows?

Linguists argue that emoji are a new, universal form of communication. These small images convey abstract ideas, including emotion and innuendo, with more immediacy than the written word. Not to mention, emoji carry a ton of artistic value; they inspire people to express themselves, much like a painting or song. Read More »

Chrome OS Could Steal Windows’ Best Customization Feature

Wait, Chrome OS doesn’t have one of these yet? Logitech’s M510 Wireless Mouse is Powerful, Simple, and Inexpensive

Need a simple—yet reliable—wireless mouse to add to your PC setup? We love Logitech’s M510 mouse because of its easy plug-and-play design, comfortable contoured rubberized grip, and broad palm support. It has reprogrammable back/forward buttons and has features for side-to-side scrolling and zoom. Batteries last for approximately two years, and you can toggle the on/off switch as needed to extend battery life. You can also just keep the receiver plugged into your computer, so you won’t have to worry about losing it.

How to Install Dropbox’s New Apple M1 Optimized Beta

Before now, Dropbox was one of the worst cloud storage applications to run on an M1 Mac. It didn’t offer native Apple Silicon support, so it wasted system resources, gobbled RAM, and burned through battery life. But just as Dropbox promised, its latest app beta is finally optimized for M1 Macs. Read More »
