Quick backstory.

I was in a meeting this week and the team showed me a graph of Instagram engagement.

And in October it fell off a cliff.

Dropped by 55%.

For both business that I run.

Almost the exact same percentage.

Weird.

Algorithm? Maybe. Who knows?

But whatever it was, it was out of our control.

In the same meeting, we talked about the open rate in our newsletters.

Both between 40-50%. Very happy with that.

We work hard at it.

But yeah, very happy with that.

I feel our newsletter is in our control.

If we respect people’s time with trying to be excellent, and we give more than we take, we can win.

It is in our control.

I don’t want to work for an ALGORITHM that can change just like the snap of a finger.

I like to work for an Algorithm called 'hard work, giving value, and building a relationship with your community'.

That is why we are having an unplanned January sale.

I love Instagram, don’t get me wrong. We understand its importance to our business.
