After nine months of publishing through Substack, the Leicester Citizen is ceasing its newsletter and will be on indefinite hiatus. Our last story is this one: directly to our committed and passionate subscribers who have joined us over the last few months. After today you will no longer get emails from us, but the website and all our stories will remain online. No new articles will be published on the website.

The decision to pause the newsletter was not an easy one but because of time contraints and slow growth I’m unable to put the effort I want to into it. I, as Founding Editor, have enjoyed the relationships with our readers over the last few months and without a doubt this has been the best project I’ve ever worked on. The newsletter was very much an experiment, following in the footsteps of similar local newsletters across the country.

While this is goodbye for now, watch this space. Stay subscribed. You’ll be the first to know of any exciting journalism happening locally.

To put some of our achievements into perspective, the website has been visited more than 10,000 times and the newsletter has around ~300 subscribers. We started with shorter news stories, but our readers wanted more: in May last year, we began publishing 1,000-word features.
