Poetry Coalition to Address Disability Justice in a Series of Nationwide Programs

The Poetry Coalition, an alliance of more than twenty-five independent poetry organizations across the United States, will devote 2022 to exploring the theme “The future lives in our bodies: Poetry & Disability Justice” in a series of programs in fifteen cities that will reach an anticipated audience of more than 300,000 individuals nationwide. The line “The future lives in our bodies” is from the poem “Femme Futures” by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha
 

Deadline Extended: Literary Arts Emergency Fund 

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, current Omicron surge, and related hardships for organizations nationally, the Literary Arts Emergency Fund will reopen its submission portal for a two-week extension from Wednesday, January 19, 2022 to Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 6 p.m. EST. We warmly encourage all nonprofit literary arts organizations and publishers who have not yet applied to please submit applications during this window. 
 

Apply for the 2022 Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowships

The Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowships are $50,000 awards given to honor poets of literary merit appointed to serve in civic positions. The awards enable them to undertake meaningful, impactful, and innovative projects that engage their fellow residents, including youth, with poetry, helping to address issues important to their communities, as well as create new work. We are accepting applications for the 2022 fellowships from December 6, 2021 until February 18, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Find out more here.

Congratulations to eleventh grader Lara Lazar from Yonkers, New York, who has been named the winner of the 2022 National Poetry Month Poster Contest! California Seeks Poet Laureate 

The California Arts Council is seeking nominations for the next California Poet Laureate. The poet laureate position was established in California on June 30, 1915. Learn more about the criteria and nomination requirements here. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, January 28, 2022, at 5 p.m.

Apply for the 2022 Raiziss/de Palchi Book Prize

The $10,000 Raiziss/de Palchi Book Prize will be given in 2022 for the translation into English of a significant work of modern Italian poetry. The judges for the 2022 Raiziss/de Palchi Book Prize are Nick Benson, Moira Egan, and Graziella Sidoli. Learn more and apply here
