Paging Dr. Lesbian - dispatch from *kissing in spanish*
Welcome to this week’s dispatch from the lesbian internet, a mid-week news roundup from Paging Dr. Lesbian. If you like this type of thing, subscribe, and share it with your friends. It’s been announced that The Mitchells Vs. The Machines, in which Abbi Jacobson voices the lead character, is “the first openly queer lead character in an all-ages animated feature film.” The film was written by Rebecca Sugar, who is the creator of Steven Universe. In other “firsts” news, Kausar Mohamed and Fawzia Mirza star in a short film called The Syed Family Xmas Eve Game Night in which they play ostensibly the first “queer Muslim character played by a queer Muslim actor” and “her Muslim mother played by a queer Muslim actor.” It was Dolly Parton’s birthday last week, which prompted the ever-faithful godimsuchadyke on Instagram to post one of the best Dolly performances ever, which is her and Melissa Etheridge singing “Come To My Window” on CMT. Please enjoy. If you’re looking for something to watch, might I suggest Rebelde? The Netflix series is a remake of the 2004 Mexican telenovela of the same name, and it follows a group of teenagers from around Latin America who attend an elite performing arts school. The 2022 version, in case you were wondering, features a very sweet relationship between a new student and the school’s resident mean girl. If you’re not familiar with the original series, check out Rebelde Made Me Gay (& The Netflix Remake Is Telling Our Queer Stories) from Mercedes Viera. Now for some Jeopardy! news: Amy Schneider has officially become the second longest-running Jeopardy! contestant of all time, having broken Matt Amodio’s record from last year. The only person who has now won more games than her is Ken Jennings, who happens to be the current host of Jeapordy! We also learned recently that Schneider hypes herself up for every game by reciting the lyrics to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” in her head, so that’s endearing. Speaking of queer word games, Autostraddle has made a sapphic version of Worlde (more sapphic-specific than the broadly queer queerdle) called TIRTL. Check it out if you want to use your brain a little bit, but not quite as much as Amy. The nominations for the GLAAD Media Awards have been announced, and they are all over the place. Yellowjackets was nominated, but so was Eternals and The L Word: Generation Q, so we clearly still have some slim pickings here. Unfortunately I was not nominated for “Outstanding Blog,” so that was clearly an oversight on their part. I WAS JOKING WHEN I SAID THIS but it is true Guardian culture @guardianculture Yellowjackets star Liv Hewson: ‘Being adored by gay people on Twitter is all I’ve ever wanted’ https://t.co/B4B9REOIzvJoJo Siwa celebrated the one-year anniversary of her coming out on Sunday with a heartfelt post on Instagram. It’s wild to think it’s already been a year! We wish her gay luck in the future. Other things:
That’s all for this week, folks! Stay tuned for more. I will leave you with this meme, which made me squeal with joy. If you liked this post from Paging Dr. Lesbian, why not share it? |
