Analysts say Novavax may see over $4 billion in vaccine sales this year

While several companies have had Covid vaccines on the market for over a year now, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for growth in the market. Take Novavax, for example, which is set to begin deliveries of its Covid vaccine to European countries this week. The company’s protein subunit vaccine has shown efficacy numbers similar to that of the mRNA vaccines, and it’s now authorized for use in over 30 nations. Canada authorized the vaccine last week and it’s filed with the FDA for use in the U.S. as well. According to an equity research note published by Jeffries today, Novavax will likely take in over $4.5 billion in vaccine sales in 2022. The analysts note that the company’s vaccine “has a demonstrated clinical profile comparable to leading mRNA vaccines, with a few technical advantages, supporting meaningful future market share.” Public health officials also hope that the vaccine, which is based on a similar technology used in vaccines for other diseases, may help dissuade some vaccine hesitancy among those concerned about the novelty of mRNA technology.

Queen Elizabeth II of the U.K. tested positive for Covid-19 Sunday, and while her prognosis remains much better due to her receiving at least one vaccine dose and the development of effective covid treatments, her advanced age (95) puts her at particular risk.

A metaanalysis of studies suggests that higher levels of
vitamin D may be associated with shorter hospital stays for people infected with Covid. But there’s a few caveats in the study to consider.

Every state in the union has either
