Poems on the Passage of Time

According to the National Weather Service, “Twosday” (2/2/22) won’t happen again for another 400 years, in 2422. Reflect on the fragile passage of time with these poems from Poets.org:

Let Me Begin Again” by Major Jackson
Now and Then” by Charles Bertram Johnson
Time Passes” by Joy Ladin
Third Rock from the Sun” by Dorianne Laux
Big Clock” Li-Young Lee
Last Mattress” by Marilyn Nelson
What an Indian Thought When He Saw the Comet” by Tso-le-oh-woh
Tomorrow is a Place” by Sanna Wani
Untitled” by Maged Zaher

Tomorrow: 2022 Blaney Lecture with Paisley Rekdal

Join us tomorrow, at 4 p.m. PST / 7 p.m. EST for the 2022 Blaney Lecture, “Beyond Empathy, Beyond the Archive: Notes on Poetic Representation,” delivered by Utah Poet Laureate and 2019 Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow Paisley Rekdal. This virtual event is free to attend. A Q&A session will follow the lecture. ASL interpretation will be provided.

Register and tune in live for the chance to win a free copy of either Nightingale (Copper Canyon Press, 2019) or Imaginary Vessels (Copper Canyon Press, 2016) by Paisley Rekdal—raffle winner’s choice! Thanks to Copper Canyon for providing the free copies.

The lecture was created in memory of former Academy of American Poets Board member Dr. Dorothy Gulbenkian Blaney, past president of Cedar Crest College and champion of women and education, by a gift from her estate.
