The BanklessDAO guilds and projects continue to explore the boundaries of the metaverse for opportunities that further our mission. This week, we are covering some exciting project updates, including the latest news from Bankless Consulting, the InfoSec team receiving funding to spearhead Web3 security for bDAO members, a DAO Heat NFT being minted, and Bankless Africa is educating on how to use DeFi and much more for our brethren in Africa.

Projects are how guilds scale their activities and how contributors find a home to share their ideas and implement them. This newsletter is an invitation to see what we are working on, and your ticket to getting plugged in. We want you to get involved, share your skills, and contribute meaningfully to work that you are passionate about.

🧑‍🏫 Bankless Consulting | Project Champion: @D Side

Bankless Consulting is a services arm on top of BanklessDAO bringing the talent of 15,000 web3 natives to professional service projects in marketing, tech, legal, finance and management. They help DAOs, web3-based and traditional businesses navigate the nuances and leverage the power of web3. We strive to create the mechanisms for people to be paid fairly, transparently, and based on decentralized governance.

Updates

• Bankless Consulting website launched in January 2022 and they have been building a full service Web3 consulting practice on top of the talent at bDAO.

• Currently, they have signed several clients in various sectors including DAO advisory, governance, development, and marketing. They are also in talks with several dozen potential clients and building out a DAO-in-a-Box product which serves as a methodology that can help DAOs at any stage in the lifecycle.

• They are in the final stages of finalizing partnerships with other DAOs and web3 protocols for mutually beneficial arrangements that further the effectiveness and reach of their brands.

• They have over one hundred contributors, four current clients, five partnerships in the pipeline and over 100K in social media impressions!

Roadblocks

In some ways, they are a victim of initial scaling success. Having been engaged by over 60 prospective clients, and joined on their calls by over 120 bDAO contributors, they face scaling issues as any start-up does. Since they are bootstrapping and not raising capital, they are exploring ways to pay all of the contributors that participate in the scaling operations (creating collateral, responding to proposals, building out service offerings, handling marketing, Legal and Insurance expenses, etc.). In order to bridge funding to help compensate bDAO contributors for helping scale Bankless Consulting, they have submitted a forum proposal.

✍️ Editing and Publishing Arm (EPA) | Project Champion: Samanthaj

The EPA provides a quality control mechanism for the content that flows out of the DAO. They have a team of experienced writers and editors who ensure that the publications meet our quality standards and align with our mission.

Updates

• Keep an eye out for their editing mentorship program starting very soon! Taking a brief editing test will lock in your spot as a mentee. If you join the program, you will get the opportunity to earn BANK for your edits while getting tips and advice from skilled editors in the EPA. We want to level up the editors in BanklessDAO, and we are waiting to hear from you! Announcements will come out in the next week. If you have any queries, shoot a DM to @samanthaj

• The EPA has started a month-long initiative called March for Words to increase excitement about writing for bDAO. It kicks off on February 21 and ends on March 22. Generally, the EPA submissions pay out 2 BANK per word with a maximum limit of 3000 BANK. If you make a submission within this period, you can get PAID up to 4000 BANK!

• The EPA holds Writers Workshops every week to discuss writing and editing tactics. They are hosted in the Writers Room on Wednesdays at 6pm UTC and are open to everyone. Stop by to pitch your article idea, learn from other writers, and get your article in top shape for your March for Words submission! Stop by and join the conversation.

🌐 International Media Nodes | Project Champion: Jengajojo

International Media Nodes (IMN) are Bankless channels that spread the message of the Bankless movement beyond North America. They translate BanklessDAO content, publish original pieces, run social media accounts and ship newsletters. Search the different media nodes.

Updates

• They recently submitted their Gitcoin application.

• They have a Women’s Day marketing campaign coming up next week.

• They recorded a growth of 11.12% in audience in February as compared to January.

• They recently received 5000 USDC from Polygon Ecosystems Grant

• IMN project has grown an audience of 30000+ members and growing in such a short period.

SubDAO

Over the past three months, bDAO has seen many nodes morph into full-fledged sub-DAOs. The IMN project has been transformed from being a multi-lingual loudspeaker for Bankless content to an incubator of multi-lingual subDAOs which are onboarding people from different parts of the world. In that light, they are having a conversation on whether to sub-DAO or not within the project. They are looking for assistance to carry this conversation forward.

Roadblocks

IMN is trying to figure out how to increase newsletter viewership. If you have any insights that might help them, join in on the conversation and contribute.

IMN is always expanding. They have several new language nodes in the pipeline including Hungarian, Romanian and Japanese. If your region is yet to find a node in IMN, join their Discord channel and be the one to start one.

🔐 InfoSec Team | Project Champion: BogDrakonov

The project offers information security to BanklessDAO and aims to provide security training and advice to its members. They also create educational programs to raise awareness on information security topics in both Web2 and Web3.

Updates

• Following the recent Grants Committee meeting, they received initial funding as a new team.

• Their first priority is automating moderation of the phishing and spam on bDAO Discord.

• If you have any issues with security or moderation, just tag @InfoSec Team on Discord to get it resolved.

Timelines for implementation

5. Work with DevOps to ease their burden of administrating GitHub, Google Workspaces, Vercel and other resources by providing additional hands and guidance using our team's vast knowledge and experience in InfoSec.

🏦 Bankless Loans | Project Champion: Birdman

The Bankless Loans project intends to build a Liquity front end and direct the LQTY "front end mining" rewards to the treasury. Liquity is a DeFi lending protocol which allows users to borrow money against an underlying collateral payment. The project uses Liquity to direct rewards to bDAO.

Updates for the Week

• They have a new design for the Bankless Loans homepage and mobile version of the Bankless Loans Dapp, created by IsraelRex.

• Birdman, the Projects Dev Champion worked on fine tuning the Github with issues for the new design implementation. @CompositeFellow and @Tony Stark will assist him with coding the design elements in Chakra UI.

🌍 Bankless Africa | Project Champion: ThinkDecade

Bankless Africa is a Node that extends the vision and mission of the DAO to Africa. They are focused on promoting, educating and propagating truly bankless media, culture and education to drive the adoption of trustless, decentralized money systems and blockchain technology with the aim to promote capacity building, economic empowerment and financial sovereignty in Africa.

• Africa to Defi: bAfrica spreads knowledge on DeFI through weekly Defi Talk & Vibe in telegram channel. This is an open AMA session aimed at helping everyday Africans learn how to use and interact with dApps while guiding community members to set up wallets and navigate various chains and ecosystems.

• Carbon Collectibles NFT project: Carbon Collectible NFTs is planning an initial private sale of 1,000 NFTs. Each NFT includes five Web3 carbon offsets per year for 10 years.

  • Traditional carbon offsets are exclusionary and unaffordable. Consequently, low-income communities in Africa, who own a mature forest, resort to illegal deforestation and starting bushfires to convert their forestry into farmland, so they can feed their families.

  • To disrupt this industry, bAfrica will use satellite imagery, machine learning and artificial intelligence to automatically measure carbon sequestration rates. They use the Polygon blockchain to track our Web3 carbon offsets to prevent double counting and reinvest 65% of the proceeds of our NFT sale back into the low-income forestry community. Their business model eliminates expensive and exclusionary intermediaries, thereby adding equity and inclusion to climate finance.

  • They also have a SatNavApp that allows NFT owners to zoom in and see the tree cover on the 1-hectare block of forestry that is assigned to their NFT. This provides enhanced provenance, transparency and physical rarity. In addition, our NFTs represent current and future carbon sequestration, not solely historical carbon that is represented by traditional carbon offsets.

  • Currently, they have completed development work and are commencing the marketing program in collaboration with Polygon Studios. They are seeking additional contributors to help develop and execute our marketing strategy.

• Bankless Africa Podcast: bAfrica runs a podcast aiming to become the web3 information hub for Africans. The show will highlight projects, ecosystems and people making impact and driving adoption of web3 tech across Africa.

• Stablecoin research focused on Africa: They are currently researching the stablecoin ecosystem in Africa. The project is going strongly and is awaiting some exciting milestones.

Roadblocks

bAfrica is organized around six workgroups:

4. Social impact

5. Treasury Workgroup

6. Research workgroup

They are currently heavily understaffed and looking for contributors who have experience in these respective areas to reach out and assist them to spread the Bankless gospel in Africa.

🔥 DAO Heat | Project Champion: FreedomFighter

DAO Heat is a collaborative writing and design contest founded to increase coordination among bDAO members. It involves two stages, a writing contest followed by a design contest. The winning design is then converted into a collection of 50 limited edition NFTs that will be put up for sale. Prize monies can go up to 3000 BANK + a cut of the NFT sales.

Updates

• The Design Contest has come to an end. They are evaluating the submissions to choose the winners of the Design Contest. Once the winners are chosen, the top design will be converted into NFTs. The Epoch 0 NFT will be released on Friday 11th March! The drop will happen during the Community Call. Stay tuned!

• They are also in the ideation process of incubating a project called DAO Beatz which will act as a music-NFT incubator for artists to efficiently sell their work and make a livelihood. They are looking for contributors with experience in this area.

👮 Web3 Security Fundamentals

This workshop is organized by Coffee & Crypto | Jacob.

Web3 Security Fundamentals is a one hour workshop designed to educate individuals on best patterns and practices around online security fundamentals. In this workshop, we will discuss security around passwords, password managers, email accounts, phones, websites, Discord and Metamask.

Additionally, anyone who attends the workshop for at least 30 minutes will have the ability to schedule a free 30 minute 1:1 session during the following two weeks with Coffee & Crypto | Jacob to ask personal questions about anything discussed during the workshop, including assistance setting up a password manager, enabling MFA, or anything else security related to the workshop.
