MegaMaker - Will full-stack devs go extinct?

Howdy!

Three things for you this Saturday: quitting, will full-stack devs go extinct,

❌ When should you quit a project?

It's natural for entrepreneurs to work on multiple projects. Starting a new project is easy; but you also need to learn how to quit a project.

Back in 2019, I wrote a post about when to quit and move on:

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» Will the full-stack developer go extinct?

There was a fascinating interview with Taylor Otwell (the creator of Laravel), where they discussed the future of the "full-stack developer."

Do you think in 10 years we will still have full stack developers?
I mean, the full stack developers is kind of hard to find, but if you find like the one productive guy that's productive with Laravel, he will solve all your problems, not only your frontend. And I mean, same could apply to a JavaScript developer that just like is very good on the backend side as well.
Will their jobs still exist in a few years?

🎧 listen to the full episode here

To me, the full-stack developer is the best thing to happen in indie SaaS.

Using frameworks like Rails and Laravel, devs like @joshuaanderton, @CasJam, @valsopi, @dr, can build full web apps, basically themselves.

That kind of productivity makes "the dream" possible.

πŸ”ͺ What kills startups?

I saw a tweet that said "99% of startups fail because of bad marketing."

I disagree. While marketing, product, and team are essential ingredients, they're not enough to make or break your startup.

β€œThere’s a rule of fishing that’s a very good rule. The first rule of fishing is β€œfish where the fish are,” and the second rule of fishing is β€œdon’t forget rule number one.” Some places have lots of fish, and you don’t have to be that good a fisherman to do pretty well.” – Charlie Munger
