In Today’s issue, we cover e-comm growth in a country you most likely didn’t consider a contender for the top online economies of the world - Israel.

While Israel earned its ‘Startups Nation’ title due to its B2B tech companies, it crossed the chasm in 2020 with entrepreneurs developing consumer-facing offerings tapping into the nation’s culture of innovation :

• Israel is now the 36th largest e-comm market with a revenue of USD 6 bn.

• What Israel lacks in natural resources, is made up for in creativity, making fashion its highest-grossing e-comm sector.

  • Shein continues to be the biggest e-comm player in Israel, though we expect domestic players to pick up pace sooner than later.

• Israel has already aced sectors that most developed economies are yet to even explore: alternate meat, ESG practices, personalized product offerings, and more.

Here’s a list of a few trailblazers of Israeli consumer start-ups:

💊 Nanomdeic offers a magical spray-on skin made of nanofiber to help heal wounds. When the skin underneath is healed, this layer peels off on its own.

👠 Apparently there are seven different ways to eat a Krembo, one of Israel’s favorite snacks, and 7000 different ways of making clothes in Israel:

• Ilanit Neutra is using tires and tubes, KitePride is using repurposed kites and Remeant is using plastic waste to make clothes!

• These fashion houses are digital-only i.e. they dress a digital character or personalize its accessories in virtual worlds.

• Danit Peleg is creating clothes with 3D printers.

💎 MyNameNecklace literally gives consumers one-of-a-kind jewellery by offering them a chance to take part in the design process of their finished bling and Mixtiles offers to turn consumers’ photos into affordable, stunning wall art. 3D printed custom sunglasses are hot right now!

🥶 Solcold has developed a paint that uses sunlight to activate a cooling mechanism on cars and buildings, providing air conditioning without electricity. The hotter it is, the more the coating cools.

• NFTs are coming to Instagram.

• Google Play to allow third-party billing options starting with Spotify.

  FYI - Today’s app stores charge commissions ranging from 15%-30%, for apps offering subscriptions and in-app purchases.
