New Covid cases have started to plateau in the U.S.

Since the peak of the omicron wave, Covid cases in the U.S. had been on a steady decline. That changed last week, when daily Covid cases began to plateau in most of the country. And in nine states, the number is rising again. Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and American Samoa are also seeing upticks in Covid-19 infections. The fastest rate of increase is being seen in Kentucky, followed by New York and Colorado. Around the world, Covid cases are also on the rise again for the second consecutive week. NIAID director Dr. Anthony Fauci commented that while an uptick of cases is likely to be expected, he does not expect a major surge as was seen with the arrival of the delta and omicron variants.
