You may be sitting at home right now on the brink of insanity because you can't get new clients and bills are due. Bills are always due.
But when you’re also in the middle of a dry spell, the stress mounts, and it's easy to feel hopeless.
Every next Zoom call can feel like a matter of life and death:
“I need this job!”
You think to yourself as you try to keep your cool and come off calm and collected in front of the client.
Look, you’re not alone. We’ve all been there.
And despite your burning desire to land the gig, this mindset – "I need this no matter what" – can turn clients off.
Some clients say they’ve changed their plans. Others think you’re too expensive. But most stop replying all together.
And you’re left feeling extremely frustrated trying to figure out what the problem is.
The truth is, Reader, that you’re probably making one crucial mistake without realizing it.
How do I know? It's one of the most common mistakes that hundreds of business owners who take my Endless Clients Training Program have fixed to transform their business from the ground up.
Fixing this one mistake can supercharge your lead generation efforts, boost sales, and foster incredible confidence through the sales process.
And they come down to three words.
But before we get into what the 3 words are and why you should never say them to a client, here’s what some of my students say about Endless Clients: “I just spent 30 minutes going through RFP's for web development and app development job postings. I now have over 5 strong value propositions...the best part is, they are literally coming from potential ideal clients. I wish you put this class out earlier!” - Edward
“I ended up sending an email to about 100+ connections of various levels of familiarity and outlined specific ways I can help them solve COVID-19 related issues that may have arisen for them and offered complimentary consulting hours for them to use as they chose.
So far, I've had about a 10% response rate, most of which were requesting the complimentary consulting session, a few already leading to some small paid projects.” - Catherine Sontag
Now, let me get to the mistake.
There’s one simple phrase that almost everyone uses when they start Endless Clients which causes them to lose a staggering number of deals.
Ready? Here it is:
“Let me know how I can help.”
We’ve all said it.
In fact, go back to your old emails and check how many times you’ve used these words in one form or another. I'd be willing to bet it's somewhere in every email chain you have.
But wait, what’s so wrong with saying this? You might wonder.
It’s a courteous way to end an email, right? And it makes sense at the moment. By saying “let me know,” it feels like you're being thoughtful. But unfortunately, this phrase basically BEGS clients to ghost you. Why? Because here's what clients take away when they hear this: “I don’t know what to do next. Beware. If you hire me, you’ll need to hold my hand the entire time.”
And that makes the client think, “Great, more stuff to add to my plate! No thanks.”
So you lose the business.
Saying “let me know” constantly is like spraying yourself with a cloud of client-repellent.
But there’s an even worse, darker side.
Any time you say those 3 words, you put yourself in a very dangerous mindset.
It's an approach that takes away control from you.
It gives the control of your destiny (and paycheck) to clients.
When my students realize how incompetent they come off to clients by saying “let me know,” they switches their methods. Here’s what they do.
They begin to offer a solution at the bottom of every email (we include specific scripts for almost all common client situations too inside Endless Clients). Scripts that move the ball forward and keep you in control.
Here are some examples:
If you want a meeting, we include a script for suggesting a time NOT just asking when a client is available.
If you’re presenting a proposal, we include a script for giving instructions for your client on how to get started NOT just sending the proposal off and hoping.
When my students first started using these scripts, it felt somewhat wrong. Pushy. Uncomfortable.
But all of a sudden -- clients started responding. One by one.
And business increased as a group by over 200%!
Now that's not a guarantee. Everyone will have different results. But you can rest assured that based on the sample size (hundreds of clients) these scripts work.
And just like that, my students can open the floodgates to new business, one email at a time.
So let’s quickly analyze why these scripts and change in approach worked:
Suggesting a next step sets the tone that your time is valuable.
You come off as a professional, capable of making the right decisions on your own.
It also gives you back power over growing your business (if someone doesn't reply for whatever reason we have scripts for following up. You're never left waiting.)
In the coming weeks, Reader, you’re going to notice yourself ending many emails with “let me know.” Sorry about that. It can’t be unseen. 😓
But that’s ok. Now you know how to fix this deadly mistake before it drains any more of your income.
And to help you level up, we’ve got something very special just for you.
