Happy Monday!

On April's Fools' Day, I had a very seriously conversation with Bloomberg's Emily Chang on how Chinese authorities, are making a rare concession,  preparing to give U.S. regulators full access to the audited reports on the majority of the 200-plus companies (valued over $2 trillion in combined market cap) listed on the New York as soon as mid-2022.

Here's 5 great reads for this week:

  • Europe vs Crypto Wallets 👛 - Europe votes to impose KYC on private crypto wallets.  Is this a massive surveillance regime over Europe's financial landscape?  See reactions from Pascal Gauthier (CEO of Ledger) and Brian Armstrong (CEO of Coinbase).
  • Good or Bad 🧢 Table - A capitalization (cap) table is a record of the ownership of a company. A poorly managed cap table can lead to bad decisions, diligence issues in fundraising, and costly and time-consuming “clean-up” exercises. There are so many, but not necessarily good resources on this topic. A few decent resources from Angelist, Carta, and Cooley.
  • IPO Market is 👻 Spooked - Less than two dozen companies have IPO’d so far this year in the US, which is an awfully slow start to the year for public offerings. Fundraising in capital markets dropped by $900 billion in Q1 2022 over the same period last year with the Ukraine war, rising inflation, and wild market swings.
  • Deep Fake LinkedIn 😐  - LinkedIn already removed more than 15 million fake accounts in the first six months of 2021. There are agencies selling LinkedIn "avatars" for $1300 a month.  That smiling LinkedIn profile face might be a computer-generated fake.
  • FTX Got 🏀  - FTX US stock is coming soon and going full force with Steph Curry!

This week a total of 30 startups raised $1.05in fundingM&As:

  • $278M goes to 9 Enterprise startups
  • $70M goes to 2 FinTech startups
  • $79M goes to 2 Real Estate startups
  • $60M goes to 1 Recruiting startup
  • $65M goes to 2 Mobile startups
  • $27.6M goes to 3 eCommerce startups
  • $13M goes to 2 Fantasy Sports startups
  • $298M goes to 6 Healthcare startups
  • $125M goes to 1 BioTech startup
  • $25M goes to 1 Aerospace startup
  • $5M goes to 1 Automobile startup
