Serena Williams is Insider’s first digital cover star

I'm Julie Zeveloff West, editor in chief of Insider's Life division. This month, I am thrilled to introduce Insider's first-ever digital cover star — the unparalleled Serena Williams.

In our profile of the tennis icon, written by Sylvia Obell and with photography by Joshua Kissi, Williams reveals ambitions far beyond the court. She gets real about mom guilt and how she deals with those who doubt her, whether about her tennis career or her investment firm Serena Ventures, which raised $111 million for its initial fund and focuses on a diverse group of founders.

“The only way that people can get funding is if people like me, women and people of color, are actually writing the checks,” Williams said. “Otherwise it's going to be the same boys’ club, except not for a lot of Black people.”
