[1KS] DAY 2: How To Get Social Media Subscribers

"TWITTER IS FOR THE BIRDS..."
Well... not so fast.
Social media is an integral platform for newsletter growth. You're reading this email, right? Well, there's a good chance you got here via social media.
The problem with social media promotion is most people expect more subscribers from social than they actually get. And so they get discouraged—and quit promoting there.
But here's the thing: it's a slow build. It's a long game.
Social media subscribers are less like a fire hydrant and more like a leaky faucet: you get drips of subscribers as you continually promote and drive users to your profiles—which *should* have a link to your newsletter, btw.
WHAT TO DO
#1: TWITTER
Twitter is doing a lot to enable creators on its platform. It’s becoming a better and better platform to drive top-of-funnel engagement.
→ STEP 1: create an account! Have one already? Skip to Step 2.
→ STEP 2: Add your newsletter sign-up link directly in your bio. Tip: if you’re using Revue, you get this cool feature in your bio:
→ STEP 3: Share your newsletter info! Share…
- what you write about
- why someone should subscribe? Bonuses? Gated content? Learnings?
- what kind of people should subscribe?
- some of your newsletter content as a tweet or thread.
#2: LINKEDIN
LinkedIn also has a built-in newsletter tool/feature.
According to LinkedIn:
I’m not personally running a newsletter on LinkedIn, but I’ve seen many people execute this strategy with success. My friend Niharikaa has grown her email list to over 6,800 subscribers thanks in part to her LinkedIn strategy. She writes:

#3: INSTAGRAM
Instagram is an image-focused social platform, but that doesn’t mean you can’t successfully promote your newsletter there.
Start by optimizing your bio to include your newsletter link—or at least include it in your Linktree/LinkInBio app.
As you’ll see on my Growth Currency Instagram account, you can still post relevant and interesting images that relate to your newsletter content.
Here are some ideas for IG:
Carousel Posts
A great template for newsletter posts is the carousel post. This works well with short stories or listicles you’ve featured in your newsletter. You can include content you’ve already produced and just repurpose it visually. Use Canva for free to create your visuals, then upload with Hypefury or straight from the Instagram desktop or smartphone app. Check out this Growth Currency carousel example »
Successful Strategies
James Clear’s Instagram strategy has been a reused by many with a lot of success. It works because he only posts a select few templates repeatedly from his newsletter and books. He does the same thing with his IG stories.
Why does this work well? For the creator, it limits your choice adding design constraints. For the user, your content will stand out after enough impressions and they may eventually subscribe to find out more.
Post Tweets on IG
Another popular strategy is repurposing your tweets on Instagram. @behaviorhack was one of the first creators I saw doing this effectively.
Take your popular newsletter-related tweets and re-post them to Instagram. Hypefury (affiliate) allows you to do this pain-free, automatically.
#4: TIKTOK
My friend Justin Moore (aka @creatorwizard) is my source of inspo when it comes to leveraging TikTok for newsletter growth.
Justin writes:
"Doubling down on TikTok has proven WAY more effective as a newsletter growth tactic than I expected. I do a DM strategy with new followers on TikTok and the opt-in rate has also been higher than others like Twitter and Instagram. I think it's because TikTok is still very much the Wild West and creators there are hungry for guidance and knowledge so they're more receptive to the value proposition of the newsletter!"

WORTH NOTING: One major limitation to the TikTok strategy when starting out is that you can't put a link in your bio until you hit 1,000 followers—at least for now... So to combat this, you can include your desired URL in your bio. It just won't be clickable which means the conversions will likely be low, unless you can provide massive value!
