It’s not the ‘greatest’, but it is a great skill.

Ideas are like avocados. You can’t let ‘em sit around for too long.

Here’s the hack to cut your time in half. Don’t make long lists.

For example: Imagine you’re trying to find sponsors for your event.

Don’t make a list of 25 potential sponsors in a spreadsheet. Take the first name - and call them immediately (even if you don’t know what to say).

Action, not lists! Lists are just a fancy form of procrastination

Over the past year, I haven’t kept much of a schedule. If someone wants to meet, I usually say “how about now?”

If they can’t do it, it’s probably not that important to them.

I just attended Hyper's demo day and wanted to share a few observations.

If you don’t know, Hyper is a new startup accelerator that gives you $300K for 5% of your company.

For the past decade, Y Combinator has been the king of accelerators.

But I think YC is moving into a new phase:

• YC now has ~400-500 startups per batch (it started with like 12)
• YC’s original founders retired, and then their successor (Sam Altman) left too
• YC is super hands off and the prestige has gone down (again, because they take ~500 startups every batch, it feels more like ‘spray and pray’ investing)

So anyways, now there’s Hyper. It’s a better deal ($300k for 5%), with smaller batch sizes (~12 per batch I think?), and it’s way more hands on.

Here were 2 big takeaways I had after the Hyper Demo Day:

11/3 of the companies were web3 related

Remember in ~2010, the iPhone app store was open, and all of a sudden half the startups were mobile-first or mobile-only? That’s what’s happening with crypto now.

The biggest mistake founders make when pitching - they go for a “Grand Finale”

Every startup pitch has a “strongest point”. Maybe it’s your traction. Maybe it’s your team. Maybe it’s a killer product demo.

One huge mistake is putting your strongest point at the end.

I get the temptation. You want to close with your strongest material.

But in reality, the investor has already checked out by then. You’re much better off putting your killer slide at the front. Like in the first 3 slides. Then the investor will be interested in hearing the rest of the pitch. Get them hooked, then close them.
