Tim Ferriss - 5-Bullet Friday — June 17, 2022

Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. If you enjoy it, please feel free to forward this along to friends.
What is helping me sleep
WAOAW Sleep Mask. This has become my favorite sleep mask. The WAOAW is a contoured mask that removes all pressure from the eyes, and it’s been added to my list of “things I didn’t know I needed.” The design also blocks much more light than conventional masks. Special thanks to my girlfriend for the spot-on gift. Grumpy Tim is good for no one.
What I’m reading
“A South Texan’s Wild Quest to Break a National Birding Record” by Will McCarthy (@wrmccart) for Texas Monthly. Subheadline: “When she began her year-long bird-spotting adventure, Tiffany Kersten was lost and lonely. She ended up achieving a major milestone—and finding her way.” I’ve been on a nature kick and wanted to keep feeding the furnace. This provided a nice boost, and I’m already brainstorming new adventures…
Album I’m listening to while working
I Choose Noise (YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music), studio album by Hybrid (@HybridBandUK). If you want to whet your appetite, “Last Man Standing” and “I Choose Noise” are two good tracks to start with.
Shoes I’m enjoying for hiking several hours a day
Cloudventure from On (@on_running). I have this pair in Black/Reseda. From On’s website: “The Cloudventure is a lightweight trail running shoe, built to excel in demanding outdoor conditions.” I’ve been pounding the hell out of these, and they’ve allowed me to hike more than I have in years without any pain from plantar fasciitis. I’ll be adding in rucking soon then slowly progressing to trail running, which I loved when I was younger. Related reading: “The Painless Path to Endurance.”
Quote I’m pondering
“Forgiveness is accepting the apology you will never receive.”
— Shawne Duperon (hat tip to Mark Goulston)
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Tim
P.S. Deal of the Week — 80,000 Hours! Read this P.S. and you’ll thank me.
You have roughly 80,000 hours in your career—that’s 40 hours a week x 50 weeks a year x 40 years—and it’s your biggest opportunity to make a positive impact on the world. Some of the best strategies, best research, and best tactical career advice I’ve seen comes from 80,000 Hours, a nonprofit that provides free research and advice to help you find a career that tackles one of the world’s most pressing problems. I’ve mentioned them before, and so many of you liked them that their website crashed! The team at 80,000 Hours has put a lot of work and dedication into providing carefully researched, evidence-based career advice, and they provide it all for free. Right now, as a 5-Bullet Friday subscriber, you can also get a free book sent to you in the mail from 80,000 Hours (they’ll even cover shipping). They’ve chosen books that’ll help you make a positive impact with your career, including one by podcast guest Will MacAskill. Join their free email newsletter and get your book sent to you for free.
