Supreme Court reverses Roe v. Wade, ends right to abortion.
Roll Call (Center) • Factual Grade 77% • 4 min read

The decision upheld a Mississippi law that bans abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Chief Justice Roberts, wary of the sweeping nature of the opinion, voted to uphold the Mississippi law but did not sign on to the broader part of the opinion that wiped out the right to an abortion.
    ...
The majority opinion also argued for a more restrictive reading of due process rights protected by the 14th Amendment, namely excluding those not explicitly mentioned elsewhere in the Constitution. Justice Thomas, in a separate concurring opinion, called for the court to reconsider other due process rights, including same-sex relationships, same-sex marriage and access to contraception.
    ...
"Either the majority does not really believe in its own reasoning. Or if it does, all rights that have no history stretching back to the mid19th century are insecure,” the dissent states. Justice Alito, in the majority, countered that: “Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.”

Should sexual assault hearings in colleges have cross examinations?

362 votes, 42 comments

Context: Biden administration unveils proposed Title IX rules.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - Both parties are due the same rights so of course they should be able to question claims. However, IMO, all sexual assault cases should be handled by specialists. Most assault is not reported bc it is so traumatic to relive the incident time & time again and victims have gotten much of the blame throughout history. Special counsel (unsure of the correct term) can do effective cross exam without undue harm but it takes training and practice.

Unsure - Why are colleges needing to conduct these hearings? Let it be handled by police and the court system. [...] The one exception to that woul...

No - Colleges have no place in heinous crimes prosecutions. Centers of education should have no role in determining guilt or innocence of their students on legal matters but for exam...
