Dear Reader,

Last week we were introduced to the Raptor and the terrifying reality that she could not be contained. Now she’s escaped into the wild. What does that mean for the island and those who inhabit it?

A gentle breeze caresses fallen leaves gathered upon the forest floor.
Salt air from seas beyond towering trees signal proximity to the shore.

Overhead gulls caw. Distant waves see-saw. Nature belies the truth of the hour.
For man's great flaw is ignoring the law that life will adapt new power.

A hunter of game–a predator renamed–bears weapons for a fight more fair.
Wild or tame, he trails her the same, discovering the raptor's true lair. 

He sets out the bait and lies in wait, expecting the creature to arrive.
These undetermined fates are when Death dictates who will be left alive. 

Movement abounds, accompanied by sounds, as shadows peel and unfurl.
Appears a small hound, emaciated and down, a ruse set by the clever girl.

A twig snaps toward the back, the hunter tries to react, but she's a swift blue blur.
His rifle shot cracks as the raptor attacks, the hunted consuming the hunter.
