Issue 234 - 4,800+ mile family road trip from DC to San Francisco

In Memoriam: Erin Carroll

We're sorry to report the loss of Erin Carroll this past June. Erin was a member of TOSV,  a former Tesla employee and was very active in the  Women of Tesla group in Gigafactory One. Outside of Tesla-related events, Erin was also very active in the Berkeley Dragon Boat racing team (DragonMax).

We join her family in mourning Erin's passing.

FSD Beta

FSD Beta v10.69.2.2 - unprotected left turns 📹
Really impressive behavior in this video by Chuck Cook with medium/heavy traffic.

Beta expanding to safety scores above 80
If you have a safety score above 80 and more than 100 miles in the last 30 days, you should have gotten the latest version of FSD by now. If this is like previous rollouts, you needed to have those by the time they extended the release. If you didn't have those two, chances are that in a new release you will be included.

New to FSD Beta? Watch this video 📹
Great video by Chuck Cook to prepare the new testers for their first few drives.

Software Updates

(Actually) Smart Summon and Autopark incoming
As we experienced the first rain of the season last weekend here in the Bay Area, I was thinking about Smart Summon and how it isn't something that I try to use ever, I just can't trust it enough, and it's too slow. Elon said on Twitter that the team is working on an (actually) smart summon and auto park, and that they have a deadline by the end of the month. Look, I'm not going to hold my breath on this one given past experiences, but it would be great to have a good smart summon and auto park.

FSD Beta 10.69.3 will improve NN velocity predictions
In a response to Chuck's video above, Elon said that the car will move into tighter gaps as they enhance the velocity predictions for crossing traffic in the NN. According to him, the next month's version (10.69.3) has significant improvements on that.

You can now order a Tesla directly from the Tesla app ðŸ“·
Maybe a bit far-fetched, but you never know when you are going to need to order a car in a wimp, maybe when your friend challenges you late at a bar ðŸ˜‚ You can order it directly from your Tesla App. This might be a strategy to convert other EV owners using the app to charge at Tesla Superchargers.

New iOS 16 Shortcuts have been updated to use personal hotspot on/off  ðŸ“·
Great trip by this Redditor, if you are one of those who rely on the personal hotspot instead of paying for Premium Data Connectivity, with the shortcuts in iOS 16 you can enable/disable the hotspot when your phone gets in or out of driving mode.

4,800+ mile family road trip from DC to San Francisco 📷
Great post about a long road trip by this family. A total of 4800+ miles driven and $350 spent on charging. They did the trip over 43 days, with 8 days of actual driving. Thank you for sharing!

🤓 What the acronym

As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
  • EV -  Electric Vehicle
  • FSD -  Full Self-Driving
  • NN -  Neural Network
