Balsamiq is looking for a head of marketing!

The latest news from Balsamiq:
We’re looking to hire our first Head of Marketing. Can you help us find the one?

We don’t do marketing in the traditional way, so this search won’t be easy.
But this is a dream job!
As a small, independent software company, we feel very lucky to have attained the success that we have without a lot of marketing. We launched a product in 2008 that many people didn’t know they needed and rode a sustained wave of word-of-mouth promotion for a long time as a result. The product itself and our awesome community (thank you!) did a lot of the work for us.

The remaining marketing that we do has been led by our founder Peldi. He enjoys doing it and has done a pretty good job at it, but he recognizes that he has reached his limits, both in terms of skills and time.

It’s time to hire someone who can take our marketing to the next level. 🥳

We need someone who can help us decide on the best marketing tactics, and execute them. Could it be you?

Here are some of the current challenges we’ll need your help with:
  • We noticed that the people who could benefit from our tool the most sometimes no longer find us in their research, and end up settling for a less appropriate product, which is a real shame.
  • We continue to add value to the product, but we don’t tell anyone about it. 😞 We’re so bad at tooting our own horns.
  • Our product has started to develop a reputation for being ancient and tired. It’s very much NOT, so we need you to fix that! 😅
  • Our positioning could be communicated better, and our product offering is confusing, with too many versions, and uncommon pricing.
  • Our company story is still interesting, but Peldi wants someone else to tell it.
  • By doing very little marketing we’ve left a lot of money on the table. With your help, we’d like to pick some of that up 🙂 Not to grow faster, but to ensure our longevity.
Are these things you’d be interested in solving with us?

TAKE A LOOK AT THE JOB POST
We are sharing this with you today before posting it on dedicated job sites. We’d love to hire someone from our inner circle!

We don’t do marketing like everyone else

In our 15-year history, we’ve never even set up a funnel on our website. We rarely look at analytics!

We prefer conversations to conversions, and nice and steady 2-3% growth over short-term “growth hacking” techniques.

We have strong ethics and go to great lengths to protect our customers' privacy.

We believe that customer service is a huge part of marketing, and delighting customers is our favorite thing to do.

We talk more about this, as well as give examples of what kind of marketing initiatives we like to run, on the job post.

Company news

We accidentally went viral the other day! In light of Figma’s acquisition, we thought we’d send out a little reassuring tweet to our customers stating what we’ve been saying since day one:

Well, we underestimated how much people on Twitter love a bit of drama, because our tweet was seen over 600,000 times, retweeted over 500 times, and got over 5,000 likes (we love you too! 😍).

Oh well, back to work for us. 😉

Other news:

That's it for this month!

If the Head of Marketing job is not for you, would you please help us spread the word? Thanks so much!

See you next month, with more behind-the-scenes news from your friends at Balsamiq!
