Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Please feel free to forward this along to friends.
Short video I’m watching
“Animal: What Makes You Truly Happy?” If this week has been stressful or heavy for you, this very short video might help you decompress. #bunnyrabbit
What I’m using
Jakt Gear’s SLING-A-LING Magnetic Paracord Bow Sling. Huge thank you to Jedi Jordon for the recommendation!
What I’m revisiting amidst present-day craziness
“50 ways to be ridiculously generous—and feel ridiculously good.” by Alexandra Franzen. This is a great list, which I found recommended on the website of fellow Austinite Professor Raj Raghunathan, author of If You’re So Smart, Why Aren’t You Happy?. If you feel overwhelmed or underjoyed, try this: give an extra $10 or $20 to the barista next time you buy coffee. Give $5 of that to the barista and pay for the next person or next few people behind you. Simply walk out after the drive-by karma bomb. The afterglow is incredible and can last hours. Paradoxically, the fastest path to feeling better is often this type of indirect route, and it makes me think of this quote often attributed to Henry David Thoreau: “Happiness is like a butterfly: the more you chase it, the more it will evade you, but if you notice the other things around you, it will gently come and sit on your shoulder.”
What I’m listening to
“Saved My Life” (YouTube, Spotify) by Andy Grammer (@andygrammer) and R3HAB (@R3HAB).
Quote I’m pondering
“It is good to come to a country you know practically nothing about. Your thoughts grow still, useless. … In a country you know nothing about, there is no reference point. You struggle to associate colors, smells, dim memories. You live a little like a child, or an animal.”
— Andrzej Stasiuk
Hat tip to Rolf Potts, author of The Vagabond’s Way, for sharing this with me.
You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with bestselling author A.J. Jacobs’s strategies for happiness through gratitude, angel investor Naval Ravikant’s happiness hacks, and my ultra-popular conversation with Derek Sivers on finding happiness, saying no to millions, and more.
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Tim
P.S. Deal of the Week — House of Macadamias delicious and nutritious nuts!
I love macadamia nuts and have been enjoying them often since keto expert Dr. Dominic D’Agostino recommended them on the podcast in 2015. They taste great, and with more healthy, monounsaturated fat than both olive oil and avocados, 27% fewer carbs than almonds, and more than 50% fewer carbs than cashews, they’re the perfect low-carb, keto-friendly, nutty snack. They’re also rich in omega-7s, which promote the natural production of collagen, an essential protein.
House of Macadamias produces the best-tasting macadamia nuts I’ve ever eaten. That’s due, in part, to their location in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa, which provides the ideal temperature, altitude, soil composition, rainwater, and pristine mountain water for growing macadamias. Their founders are a brother and sister team with a macadamia-nut heritage—their grandfather was a macadamia farmer, and their father distributes sustainable irrigation technology. Now, they have partnered with the single largest macadamia producer in the world, comprising 94 independent farmers in South Africa, which gets them first pick of the highest quality macadamia nuts in the region to make their one-of-a-kind snacks, like their vegan, paleo, and keto-friendly chocolate-dipped macadamias. They really took their time to get these right, folks, with more than two years of flavor testing. I absolutely love them and have to force myself not to polish off several bags at a time.
Now, subscribers of 5-Bullet Friday can use code TIM20 to get 20% off all orders, plus free two-day shipping across the US, UK, and African continent with the purchase of two or more boxes! Visit HouseOfMacadamias.com/Tim to discover some of the most delicious and nutritious nuts on the planet.
